The thumbnail on the left links to a larger image from a document arguing the advantages of new 'slimline' double glazing in listed buildings. Unlike traditional double glazed units, which cannot authentically replicate historic window detail and proportions, invariably have unacceptably 'chunky' framing elements and where the separation between the inner and outer glass panes is very noticeable, these new systems are capable of being fitted into existing historic frames or new frames made to historic profiles. I recently dealt with a case where such glazing on a listed public house was refused permission by the local authority. We took the case to appeal and made a persuasive argument which led to the appeal being allowed and planning permission/listed building consent being granted.
